Frequently Asked Questions about Fotspor

What is Fotspor and what is it used for?

Fotspor is a two-part application. In the authoring tool, you can create your own digital walks and nature trails with content such as text, images, audio, video, and quizzes. These routes are shared with others through our mobile application via a sharing code. Depending on the route type, different rules apply for how the content can be accessed. The app can be downloaded on both iOS and Android devices.

What types of routes are there and what are the differences?

Fotspor currently has 4 different types of routes.

  1. Nature Trail is the most popular route type. Posts must be opened in a specific order, and GPS is used to unlock the next post when the user is nearby. Only the next post, along with previously visited posts, will be visible on the map.
  2. Historical Walk works similarly to Nature Trail, where posts must be visited in order and are unlocked when the user is nearby. The difference is that all posts are visible from the start. This can be useful for optional routes so that users can assess time and distance before starting.
  3. Treasure Hunt hides all posts (except the first) on the map until the user is within range. The route creator is expected to leave clues about where the next post is. Posts must be visited in order.
  4. Open Posts can be opened from any location, in any order. This is useful for marking interesting places and adding multimedia content, or for testing routes without walking them physically.

More route types may be added in the future.
